Scholarships
 

The School offers several scholarships primarily to boys entering RBHS in Grade 8. Some run the full five years of high school; these are awarded according to academic criteria; sporting ability or musical accomplishment. Candidates for certain scholarships will be required to sit an examination during their Grade 7 year.

 
Academic Scholarship for Grade 8
The writing of the academic scholarship exam for Grade 8 for the year of entry into the High School is written towards the end of the 1st term of the preceding year.
  • The closing date for Scholarship Examination entries is a week before the examination is written.
  • Boys are required to write an exam which comprises 3 sections: English, Mathematics and Logic.
  • Writing the Scholarship Examination does not commit the candidate to attendance at RBHS nor does it guarantee acceptance.
  • Dates and times are advertised well in advance in the press.
Music Scholarship for Grade 8
Auditions are held early during the second term for boys entering the High School in the following year.
  • Includes all Strings, Brass, Woodwind, Percussion and Keyboard instrumentalists.
  • The minimum standard required is Grade 3 (practical). Successful candidates must take Music as an academic subject.
  • Candidates must be prepared to take an active part in the cultural and sporting life of RBHS.
  • Auditioning for the Music Scholarship does not commit the candidate to attendance at RBHS nor does it guarantee acceptance.
Sports Scholarship for Grade 8
  • Interviews are held during the second term of the year preceding entry into the High School.
  • Candidates must play a sport, currently offered at RBHS, at least at a provincial level
    (or be of provincial ability).
  • Candidates must also be prepared to play that sport for RBHS.
Carleton Lloyd Education Trust Full Scholarships
Full Scholarships are offered to boys who are currently in Grade 7 and who excel at rugby and any other school sports.
  • These Scholarships are in addition to the Sports Scholarships offered by the School.
  • Scholarships: 1 x Tuition and Boarding and 2 x Tuition only are on offer.
  • Candidates apply by submitting a detailed CV with a covering letter via email or fax to: Mr Leon Erasmus - Deputy Headmaster RBHS.
Overseas Scholarship Fund
This fund awards one scholarship annually for post graduate study at a foreign university.
 
Nan Mears Scholarship
The Nan Mears Scholarship is awarded every three to four years alternately to a former pupil of St Stithians College and a Rondebosch Old Boy.
The Scholarship is for postgraduate study in the humanities, the arts or law at Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
It will be available to a Rondebosch Old Boy during 2008 or 2009. Old Boys who may be interested in applying for this scholarship should contact the Old Boys’ Union to obtain further information.  Tel:  021 6851897 email:  obu@rondebosch.com
 
"All-rounder" Scholarship

Rondebosch Boys' Preparatory School offers the "all-rounder" scholarship to a Grade 7 boy who goes on to Rondebosch Boys' High School. This amounts to R 6 000 per annum and is reviewed.
