| Rondebosch bursaries |
Fees at Rondebosch and other State schools have increased significantly from when most Old Boys went to Rondebosch. The awarding of bursaries have accordingly become important to financially assist parents. An important aspect of the Union's Centenary Appeal is the creation of a Bursary and Scholarship Fund.
Bursaries are also important in attracting talented boys to the school when they may otherwise have gone to another school. Rondebosch continues its long tradition of attracting boys from diverse backgrounds and varied talents, whether academic, musical or sporting, and bursaries are generally awarded in one of these three categories. Many recipients of bursaries excel in more than one area of the school's activities.
In some circumstances parents may apply for a special reduction in school fees, but this obviously has an impact on the school's income and on the amount other parents need to pay to ensure that all the school's expenses are met. The vast majority of parents pay the full fees as they are aware of the value of the excellent education Rondebosch provides to their sons. Due to the nature of boarding, special fee reductions do not apply to boarding fees and bursaries to help boys from outside of the Rondebosch area to attend RBHS will be welcome.
Old Boys are encouraged to make contributions to the cost of awarding a bursary. Where a full or partial bursary is awarded it should be for the full five year period the boy attends RBHS as a bursary should not be withdrawn due to a lack of funds for that particular bursary. Donations may also be made toward the general bursary fund where funds from various donors are combined. Donations are deductible from South African taxable income.
