| All sport continues as per usual unless cancelled by the Head of Sport. Boys are informed before the end of school so that arrangements can be made with parents to collect them directly after school if sport has been cancelled. Boys whose parents are not able to collect them immediately after school, will be looked after by their coaches at school until collected. |

| Rugby |
RBPS follows a Tag Rugby programme for Grade 1s where the focus is on enjoyment and teamwork. From U8 to U13 boys participate in a full contact rugby programme.
Since 1906 when rugby replaced soccer as the school’s official winter sport, rugby has gained in popularity. The close rivalry amongst Western Province Preparatory School, SACS, Wynberg Junior and Bishops Preparatory in local derbies ensures tremendous interest from the Rondebosch community. Add to this our traditional matches against Paarl and Northern Suburbs schools and you have an extremely interesting season. We are extremely proud of the results that we have recorded against all of our opponents over the years.
Our tours to other traditional schools throughout the country, traditional end of season 7-a-side tournaments, but the highlight of any Rondebosch is to play against our oldest traditional rival, Bishops.
Important matters to consider when playing rugby:
|
|
|
- Mouthguards: All players are encouraged to wear mouthguards. While there are many orthodontists who will manufacture these, we have been given the website of www.maxmouthguards.co.za.
- Head Protectors: While not compulsory, all boys, regardless of position, are encouraged to make use of head protectors.
- Traditional Boots: The use of traditional black boots is strongly encouraged. Many of the bright, luminous boots, which are exorbitantly priced, are inappropriate at school boy level.
- Undergarments: Moisture management type undergarments may not protrude from the traditional Rondebosch jerseys and shorts.

| Hockey |
Hockey begins in grade one and two, with the opportunity to learn the basic skills at coaching sessions which are held once a week. At the end of each season in September, a Grade one and two Hockey Festival is hosted by RBPS.
Hockey as an extra-mural option is open for boys from U9 - U14. Each age group is assigned a coach, practice times and a venue. In order for the boys to participate in both, Rugby and Hockey, the times and days are carefully worked out. The U9's and U12 and U14 play on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the U10 and U11's play on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
U9 and U10 age groups play quarter field hockey where there are six players in a team. In the U11 and U12 age groups, they play Part Field Hockey with eight players in a team and a Goalkeeper. In the U13/14 age group, they start off with eight in a team, playing Part Field Hockey and by the middle of the season, are playing the Full Field game. At U13/14 level, all festivals, Tours, Tournaments, and Provincial Tournaments play Full Field Hockey.
RBPS enters two or three teams per age group into the WP Primary Schools Southern Hockey League. This excludes the U9 age group, but in the third term, friendly hockey matches against other schools in our zone are arranged by the coaches. U10 and U11, hockey matches are played on Wednesdays and the U12 /U13/14’s matches are played on Thursdays. RBPS has a very high success rate in these Leagues and we are very proud of our outstanding results.
In addition, to playing matches against other schools, each age group has the opportunity of participating in Festivals that are held on Friday afternoons twice in a season. These festivals are run by the Southern Zone Hockey Committee. RBPS is always very well represented at these Festivals.
Each year the Southern Zone holds trials to select the best U13 players in the zone to participate in an Inter-Zonal Tournament held in August each year.
There is a strong hockey base at RBPS with coaching staff who are extremely competent in their fields of expertise. Many of the coaches at RBPS have either coached, managed, or umpired provincial hockey at U13, U14 and U16 level. |

Table Tennis |
A full table tennis programme is enjoyed by the Grade 4 to 7 boys from April to September.
The season usually ends with a Round Robin competition and house matches. The boys also have an opportunity to play against the staff at RBPS during lunch breaks and this is always great fun for all involved. |
