Headmaster’s Welcome

In stepping into the well of information and the images of school life available here, I have no doubt that you will begin to appreciate why our school’s motto is Altius et Latius; which in its simplest sense means, ‘higher and wider’. This motto compels us to reach for quality and to offer quantity. We offer a wide variety of activities to ensure that each boy can find his place and, in each of these, we strive to ensure that the best people possible offer the best programme. Everything we do is seen as an opportunity to educate and grow our charges as both ethically and socially aware citizens of South Africa and of the world.

Our offering is filtered through the outcomes mentioned in our vision, which will be attained by equipping our young men with the competencies that enable them to be confident, resilient and adaptable in a rapidly changing world. But it would be misinformed to believe that our motto reflects only what we do; the strength of this school lies in the very broad base of support it receives from so many quarters – the family of schools, the community of parents and past parents, the trusts and trustees and the Old Boys and Old Boys’ Union. It is the breadth of support that adds greater meaning to the efforts of our teachers, administrative and support staff and our boys, over many generations, to take this school to new heights.

This is a great school with a rich history and I am proud to be the 10th headmaster to lead it.

Our Ethos

At Rondebosch Boys’ High School, we see it as our societal imperative to deliver good men. To get there we speak to core shared values and offer opportunities for intellectual, physical and ethical development. We acknowledge that each individual is different. The vibrant and multicultural diversity within the school promotes an atmosphere of acceptance and a platform for all to explore the opportunities on offer. We strive to provide a nurturing environment where pupils can develop to their fullest potential. With pride and passion, we maintain outstanding academic standards whilst embracing cultural, sporting and social endeavours to prepare learners for adult life.

Our History

Rondebosch Boys’ High School was founded in 1897 in response to the pressing need for a boys’ school in the growing suburb of Rondebosch. From humble beginnings in a rented church hall with an initial enrolment of only eight boys, the High School has flourished under the leadership of ten Headmasters. Read more
