| Debating |
The Rondebosch Debating Society is the oldest existing society at the school. The society was established in 1908.
RBHS currently boasts both the top Junior and Senior speakers in the Western Province and has one of the strongest debating teams in the country which continues to grow from strength to strength.
- RBHS hosts an Internal Debating League: this provides boys who aren’t able to commit to a school-team the opportunity of social debating. The League operates weekly; often Rondebosch Old Boys and accomplished international debaters are called in to train the boys through workshops and adjudication.
- The Debating Society enters both a Junior and Senior debating team into the provincial Rotary Debating League. Over fifty-five schools participate for the title, of Rotary Debating Champion in both respective categories. RBHS is the only school in the Leagues eighteen years of existence to have won the competition seven times – having won three consecutively.
- RBHS participates in a southern-suburbs tournament which sees the like of Bishops, Herschel and Springfield debaters compete against each other.
- The Rondebosch Debating Society acknowledges the importance of tradition; in 2008 the society proposed a traditional Rondebosch- Bishops debate which will see the two Senior teams of both schools competing against each other
- In the past ten years the school has always had at least two learners selected for the Western Province team.
- In 2008 RBHS debaters were invited to attend the inaugural African Schools Debating Championships which saw over fifteen other African countries participate.

| United Africa Society (U.A.S.) |
|
United Africa Society (U.A.S.) was founded to unite Africa as a continent by aiding war stricken regions. U.A.S. is a small, youth-driven, non-profit organization based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Aside from internal fund-raisers - selling things like t-shirts, bracelets and ribbons - the society is largely dependent on individual donors and sponsors to run its programmes.
Conflict in Africa affects us directly. To the rest of the world, Africa is viewed as a land mass riddled with starvation and conflict. The society promotes fundraisers to assist in eradicating the overwhelming poverty that exists in Africa.
The society has two main aims:
1) To unify Africa's countries and its people.
2) To send aid to the current crisis zones in Africa. |

| History Society |
RBHS has one of the most active schools’ History Societies in South Africa.
The History Society takes great pride in detailing the school’s own history. The society honours prominent Old Boys of the school on Youth Day by way of a collection of posters and prepares an annual presentation displayed during Remembrance Day.
A variety of guest speakers have addressed the Society eg. Mayor Helen Zille, Rev.Desmond Tutu and United Nations refugee workers and prominent television and radio journalists.
The society attends critical dialogue forums on controversial issues providing the boys with an opportunity to engage in critical dialogue with the people who are ultimately responsible for the well-being of others.
The society regularly hosts movie evenings with surrounding schools where like-minded learners engage with each other. The society caters for the social needs of the boys as well;
Rondebosch understands the need for a broader education in today’s society. History is essential not only to understand our past but to able ourselves to influence our own future. |

| Foundations in Philosophy |
Annually, eighteen questioning minds from Rondebosch Boys’ High School undertake a three week philosophy course hosted by the University of Cape Town’s Philosophy Department.
The course is thought provoking and challenges the boys to think out of the conventional exoteric mindsets and to engage in critical dialogue regarding three different themes each year. In 2008 the selection was freedom; the freedom of will, the freedom of speech and the freedom of expression.
The course demonstrates the need for philosophical thinking and the need to do away with complacency in thinking-all of which positively benefited the learners.

Sound and Lighting
Boys have the opportunity of learning both technical and practical skills whilst serving the school.
A crew of seven learners is chosen and trained throughout a four-year course. The crew has access to the Sound and Lighting room which houses the school’s equipment and assists with any production or technical activity required by the school. |

Quiz teams
The school boasts two quiz teams:
- The Caltex Quiz team
- The Unisa Schools’ Quiz team
The RBHS Caltex Quiz team was one of a handful of school teams honoured by the South African Institute for International Affairs for over ten years of participation in the Caltex Schools’ Quiz.
Boys are also presented with the opportunity of participating in the World Knowledge Olympiad which sees over ten thousand learners participate. |

First Aid
We have an active First Aid Society which is run for two main purposes: to facilitate training to those who have an interest in 1st Aid and to allow the first aiders to provide a service to the school. The school pays for the training, which is provided by St. John Ambulance. The first aiders form part of the medical team that is available on Saturday mornings at rugby and hockey. Assistance is given to schoolboys during school hours and during athletics meetings in summer. Society members range from Grade 8-12 and the committee comprises 5 members whose job is to co-ordinate the work of the society. |
