Cultural activities have always been part of the balanced make-up of learners at Rondebosch Boys’ High School. Our school is known for individual learners’ participation in activities spanning the entire spectrum of culture, service and sport.
Being situated in the city of Cape Town with its endless variety of world-class cultural icons and cultural institutions, the school is fortunate to tap into various resources to benefit our learners. We encourage our learners to participate in the wide range of cultural events on offer in Cape Town.
|
| |
| Cultural activities on offer are based on the prevailing talents and interests of learners and currently include: |
- Debating
- Afrro (Afrikaans)
- Drama
- Music (Choirs, Concert and Jazz Bands)
- Art and Design
Cultural activities are structured to augment both individual and team performances. The educational value of personal development through involvement in cultural activities is far more important than the number of awards obtained at the end of the day.

Cultural assembly
RBHS has introduced a weekly cultural assembly which affords cultural societies and music pupils the opportunity to display their talent.
Performances to date have included the jazz and concert bands, violin soloist Michael Duffett and a debate by the senior team of the RBHS Debating Society.
The type of cultural activity and its success are closely linked to the interests and capabilities of both learners and teachers. RBHS is fortunate to have the services of teachers who are active themselves in various cultural forms and codes:
-
The Art Department provides learners with scope to develop creative, individual interests and talents.
-
The standards achieved Art and Design learners show consistently high performance benchmarks – many of our learners are award winners in National Art and Design competitions.
- The School is involved in major dramatic productions and musical presentations each year.
- Wide Eisteddfod participation, lunchtime concerts, music evenings and an annual Carol service are part of the school calendar.
- Since 1968, Handel’s Messiah has been presented every five years by the High School, in conjunction with our sister school, Rustenburg Girls’ High School.
- The School Bands and Choirs have become exceptionally well known over the years and perform to discerning audiences.
- The RBHS Senior Debating team is currently ranked number one in the Western Cape.
