It is my very real privilege, as President of your Union, to welcome you to this website. I hope that you will browse through it with pleasure and use it as an instrument
- of communication between yourself and fellow Old Boys,
- of keeping up-to-date with the affairs of the OBU and the Schools, and
- of passing on your own news and views.

As I said on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the OBU, our basic objectives are diverse, including the above, but there is also an enormous responsibility on the shoulders of every Old Boy to reflect the values and ethos of the Schools. An education at the Rondebosch Schools is a precious possession, as you all would testify, and boys continue today to benefit as you did, but they cannot reap the full rewards to which they are entitled if their experience is undermined by a lack of moral and spiritual support from those who have passed through before them.

In further pursuit of the objectives of the Union, set just over 100 years ago by the then Headmaster and later first President of the OBU, Mr “Dad” Mason, I cite the recent Old Boys’ Union involvement in the establishment of a state-of-the-art Mathematics Room in memory of the legendary, late “Tickey” de Jager and the Memorial Gallery in the foyer of the Memorial Hall at the High School where thumbnail sketches and photographs of all those Old Boys on the School’s Roll of Honour are now displayed. In both these projects there was significant financial support as well as design and expertise input from a number of Old Boys. This more tangible type of support is still very important and, as you read of current achievements, may I encourage you to look for ways in which you can make a personal contribution.

The wonderfully stimulating and successful celebration of the 100 years of existence of the Rondebosch Old Boys’ Union last year where, once again, numerous Old Boys from all around the world experienced the camaraderie, fellowship and fun founded in their years at the School should encourage you to support celebrations of your E-year anniversaries and attend functions organised in the Mother City or in your region.

Please remember that all communication is a two-way process: the interest and enjoyment of all visitors to the site will be greatly enhanced by your active participation.

I trust that this website will be another force in the process of weaving together the various threads that go to make up the fabric that is the RONDEBOSCH family.
