School Developments |
| |
Rondebosch is constantly improving its facilities to ensure that it remains one of the leading schools in the country. Old Boys, parents of Old Boys and other friends of the Rondebosch, particularly those who no longer live in the vicinity of the two schools, may not be aware of some of these developments. Listed below some of the facilities which have been built or improved in recent years.
Many of these improvements were financed by generous donations by Old Boys, parents and other supporters.
You are also encouraged to visit the Prep, High and Little Bosch sites (see the links above) to obtain more information about the schools and their activities. |

| New swimming and water polo pool |
A modern, heated swimming and water polo has been built on the Oakhurst field next to the existing pool and squash courts. Its dimensions are 33m x 25m x 2m. This gives an Olympic short-course swimming pool and an Olympic size water polo pool - a roped area of 30m x 20m. It also allows two adjacent waterpolo pools of 25m x 16m which is the size of the old waterpolo pool.
With the attractive surrounds and landscaping Rondebosch has a magnificent new facility. The new pool is being put to full use and the old pool continues to be used by the junior sides and the Prep School.
The new pool was officially opened on the occasion of the traditional Old Boys versus school matches during March 2008.The chalet which overlooks both pools has also been renovated.

| Clent Mews |
The new Clent Mews are located next to the Sunnybrae Road entrance to the High School and provide accommodation for seven Prep and High school staff.
The unit donated by Elgin Curry (E42) is named the “Arthur Jayes Cottage” in honour of Arthur Jayes who served Rondebosch as a master for more than thirty years. Other units were donated by The Carleton Lloyd Education Trust (E29), the estate of the late Basil Crews (E42) and the Old Boys’ Union and the units are named accordingly. Further financing was provided by the two schools and donations by Old Boys.
Funds are being raised in order to name a further unit after Tickey de Jager. |

| The Tinkie Heyns Wing at Mason House |
The "Tinkie Heyns Wing" at Mason House was built to honour Prof Heyns's long association with Mason House. In his speech at the opening of the wing in 2006 Prof Heyns reminisced about some of the many boys who had lived in Mason House. He also spoke about the contributions made to Rondebosch over many years by the late Carleton Lloyd (E1929). The Carleton Lloyd Educational Trust contributed a substantial amount to the cost of renovating Mason House.

| The wing comprises dormitories, prefects’ rooms, a bathroom, a new modern prep room and accommodation for Prof Heyns. The extensions do not significantly increase the number of boys who can be accommodated, but modernise the boarding house, making it much more comfortable. |

| The Carleton Lloyd Stand |
The Carleton Lloyd Stand was officially opened by Martin Barker, Headmaster of RBHS, on 29 May 2009. Guests, boys and staff were addressed by John Benn (E54) former Chairman of the Old Boys' Union and now a trustee of the Carleton Lloyd Educational Trust. The cost of facility was being borne by the Carleton Lloyd Education Trust which was established by the late Mr Carleton Lloyd (E27).

Mr Lloyd was a great supporter of Rondebosch sports, in particular rugby and cricket. During his lifetime Mr Lloyd proposed the construction of a stand overlooking Rugby A. The stand is accordingly a memorial to him and acknowledges the tremendous contribution he made to Rondebosch on establishing the trust.
The stand comprises of three sections - two sections for boys and general spectators and the centre section which is reserved for adults. Change rooms have been incorporated below the stand. At the back of the stand there is a platform for coaches and cameras. |

| Little Bosch |
Little Bosch is an after school facility which was established by the Prep School. Secure grounds and spacious buildings create a warm, welcoming environment for three Grade R classes. Little Bosch is based in Laidlaw Lane between Keurboom Park and Western Province Cricket Club.
Little Bosch was recently extended to allow the school to increase the number of children that can be accommodated at the aftercare facility. The Carleton Lloyd Education Trust helped make the extensions possible.
