This is the latest Old Boys' Enews.

This Friday and Saturday sees the Rondebosch vs Bishops derby matches being played.  To start the weekend, Rondebosch Old Boys will again be hosting a rugby match at Rondebosch against Bishops Old Boys.  To celebrate the close connection between the two schools Rondebosch and Bishops have introduced an old bronzed boot “The Tullyallen Boot” as a trophy for the winners.  It carries the name of the road in Rondebosch which runs between the two great schools.  Old Boys are invited to the match on Friday afternoon and enjoy the social occasion before going across to Bishops to support the Rondebosch First hockey team.

The traditional Old Boys versus school boys hockey, rugby and squash matches are on Tuesday 24 August, followed by an informal Old Boys’ function – all Old Boys are invited.

On the academic side we have news of two excellent achievements at the Prep School.

Prep School accolades

Two weeks ago Prep School master Warren Sparrow won the South African “Innovation in Content” national award from Microsoft’s Innovative Teachers Forum. His entry entailed boys learning about economic management sciences and entrepreneurship through designing board games and making videos using computer software. They also used blogs and wikis and other technological resources.  Warren’s achievement emphasises the excellent and extensive use of technology by the school for the benefit of Rondebosch boys.

Prep School boys have again excelled in the annual Star International Mathematics competition in which 16 930 primary school children participated.  Rondebosch boys filled 42 of the top 200, 25 of the top 50 and 10 of the top 15 positions in the province. Christian Cotchobos was placed third in the province and fifth nationally and Julian Dean Brown achieved first place in the province and third in South Africa.  Well done to all the boys and the Rondebosch Prep School staff on this enormous achievement.

Bequests to Rondebosch

From time to time Old Boys contact the Union with a view to making bequests to Rondebosch in their wills.  As there may be Old Boys who would like to remember Rondebosch in their wills, but at this stage want to remain anonymous by not wanting to ask for the relevant details we can provide the information of the two Rondebosch entities which may be included wills.  These are:

Rondebosch Boys' Schools' Education Trust

IT 4622/98

c/o PO Box 731

Rondebosch

7700

Rondebosch Boys' Schools Old Boys' Union

PO Box 731

Rondebosch

7700

In both cases the bequests will not attract estate duty and funds will be used for the benefit of Rondebosch in accordance with the benefactor’s wishes.  We thank all the Old Boys who have included Rondebosch in their wills.
