The Old Boys' Union Honours Room is located on the first floor of the Mears Centre.
The most important function of the Honours Room is to display and store archive material of Rondebosch’s rich heritage, spanning 114 years. Old Boys and friends of the schools have donated photographs and items of interest from the early days of Rondebosch as well as items pertaining to Old Boys’ achievements after leaving the school. These include items relating to the two World Wars, international sporting achievements and Professor Alan Cormack's (E41) 1979 Nobel Prize for Medicine. Old Boys are welcome by appointment to browse through the items on display.
The Honours Room is also used for the meetings of the Old Boys' Union Committee and the High School Governing Body, the induction of the new prefects and other Union and School meetings.
The current curator and archivist is Paul la Grange (ex staff).
Among the items targeted for attention as we approach the Centenary of the Union is the improvement, in conjunction with our two schools, of the way Rondebosch's rich heritage is recorded, preserved and displayed in school foyers, other public areas within school buildings and in sports pavilions. Old Boys are requested to contact the Union if they have any items which they would like to donate to the Union. Suitable items include photographs, ties, trophies and other memorabilia.
