Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School values academic excellence, as well as providing all-round development skills in other areas such as art, culture, technology and sports.
The curriculum at RBPS strives to enable all learners to achieve to their maximum ability. This is done by setting outcomes to be achieved at the end of the process. The outcomes encourage a learner-centred and activity-based approach to education.
In the Intermediate Phase ( Gr 4-6) and Senior Phase (Gr 7) there are eight Learning Programmes : Languages ( English, Afrikaans and Xhosa ), Mathematics, Natural Sciences, Social Science ( History and Geography), Arts and Culture, Economic and Management Sciences, Life Orientation and Technology. Time allocations for each subject are prescribed for all grades and phases.
All academic activities are organised in departments by teams of dedicated teachers working together to promote their subject and to instil in every learner an enthusiasm and interest in their subjects. All teachers set very high standards of themselves, of each other and of their learners so that together, the very best outcomes can be achieved.
The academic year is divided into four terms. A weekly test timetable is followed and every term, academic progress reports are sent home to parents at the end of term. There are ample opportunities for parents to meet with teachers to discuss their son’s progress at scheduled ‘meet-the-teacher conferences’. Any matter of concern arising about academic work can be raised at any time by parents. Examinations for Grade 7 are written twice a year in June and November. Examinations for Grades 4, 5 and 6 are written once a year in November.

RBPS follows an inclusive education policy and is able to support students with learning difficulties. There is a highly competent team of specialist teachers who are qualified to support learners who have difficulties. We envisage to provide a strong rounded education for all our learners and within that context, we also provide our most able learners with opportunities that both challenge and support them as they strive for academic excellence.
It is our aim to develop sound work ethics, self discipline and learning skills to ensure that all our learners are prepared for the future. The curriculum followed aims to develop the full potential of each learner as a citizen of a democratic South Africa. It seeks to create a lifelong learner who is confident and independent, literate, numerate and multi-skilled, compassionate, with a respect for the environment and the ability to participate in society as a critical and active citizen. |
