Information Technology

Information Technology is part of our everyday lives.  We cannot escape from it.  Computers are changing the way we work and the way we live.  At Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School we use IT to encourage students to learn more independently and to learn actively.  With this in mind, we have created a learning environment where Information Technology and education meet.  It is visible in almost every aspect of our school, from the boy in Grade 1 to the headmaster.

Our Computer Centre boasts ‘state of the art’ equipment, and is equipped with 28 Microsoft XP computers in a dedicated computer laboratory, as well as a total of 145 computers throughout the school, with at least a computer in each class.  Every boy comes to computers every week for one hour from Grades three to seven
and half an hour for Grades one and two.  Every boy has his own computer during the computer classes.

Each boy has Internet access, as well as their own e-mail address on the rbps.co.za domain.  This has allowed them to work at their own pace in the desired technology areas.

The purpose of computer education is not only to teach computer skills as a separate subject, but to integrate these skills into other subject areas.

There are data projectors in many classes, as well as an Interactive Whiteboard. Our Interactive board allows a more interactive learning environment. The board is connected to a computer and then the two devices communicate interchangeably.

These boards increase the interactive atmosphere in the classroom which in turn increases the learning experience as boys are visual learners.

The teachers project their notes and slide shows onto these boards and instead of becoming a one-sided lecture, it becomes a two-sided experience. Students can edit andmake notes on the screen or answer questions directly on the screen. This allows the boys to play a larger part in the discussion and absorb more from each lesson.
