Sam Kriger
Head of Music
(Grade 1 & 2 Arts & Culture, Junior & Senior Choir, Conducting, Piano and Recorder)

Sam Kriger, completed her B. Mus. Degree, specialising in Music Education, as well as her HDE at UCT. Her Honours was completed a year later, where she focused on Music Therapy among disadvantaged communities. She has been actively teaching for 17 years, both at Primary and High school level. Seven of those years have been part- time due to raising her family. She has been actively involved in conducting and directing school choirs ranging from Junior choirs to High School choirs. She is married to Angelo Kriger and has two sons, Seth and Noah.

Fernando de Nys
(Grade 5 Arts and Culture, Junior & Senior String Ensemble, Violin)

Fernando de Nys has an esteemed musical career based largely in Europe, having studied Violin and Viola at the Sweelink Conservatory of Amsterdam. He also won a Premier Prize with distinction at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. During the course of his studies he was nominated as principle violist of the National Youth Orchestra of the Netherlands; nominated for the European Community Youth Orchestra and nominated as principal of the World Youth Orchestra. 
On completion of his studies, Mr de Nys was appointed as a permanent replacement with the world renowned Concert Gebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam for two years. He was appointed as co principle of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of Vlaanderen in Belgium where in the same year was also selected as a member of the Chamber Players of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mr de Nys returned to South Africa in 1996 and made teaching our young talent his full time occupation.


Jane Lennox
(Grade 4 Arts & Culture, Windband, Brass & Recorder)

Jane Redfern is the founder and teacher of our brass department. She studied her undergraduate Bachelor of Music degree at U.C.T. under Mr Sean Kierman. In 2007 she completed her Honour’s degree in brass education at Stellenbosch University and she is currently working toward her Master’s degree in music education.
Miss Redfern started the RBPS Brass department in 2005 with eleven trumpet students. The department has since grown and we now have boys playing trumpets, trombones, french horn, tuba and the less common euphonium.


Eleanor Mullins
(Grade 3 Arts and Culture, Orchestra, Woodwinds, Piano)

Eleanor Mullins hails from the Eastern Cape and received her Bachelor of Music from Rhodes University in 1997. Although new to the Rondebosch full time staff, she is no stranger to the school as she been a peripatetic teacher here since 2006.
Eleanor has worked in Cape Town as a Woodwind specialist teacher since 2002. She has been actively involved in the formation and conducting of various school ensembles. Alongside teaching she has had an active performing career, playing flute and saxophone in quartets, bands and the Wind Worx symphonic wind ensemble and is also a member of the St Georges Cathedral University Singers.
